REVIEW & INTERVIEW: [REDACTED]

A MONTHLY ARTICLE WRITTEN BY [REDACTED], EDITED BY [REDACTED]

[REDACTED] is a new four-piece rock band in the Akron music scene. Working hard in The Lab™, [REDACTED] is currently formulating their first studio album, [REDACTED]. Their first demo, Lab Tapes, is set to release this Friday, 5/19.

Lab Tapes is a two-track demo that features Method Acting and ¡La Cocaína! and was entirely self-made in an Akron basement (The Lab™). While limited due to their equipment and recording experience, Method Acting and ¡La Cocaína! are two great demos that showcase [REDACTED]’s ability to write songs that both hit hard and invoke emotions.

Method Acting is a deep dive into the mindset of a man who takes up an alter-ego to help cope with a recent break up. Giving into cigarettes and drugs, this alter-ego lets him become the person he wants people to perceive him as: a confident rockstar who can do anything. However, “method acting” also leaves him empty inside and on the brink of a mental breakdown. The lyrics of Method Acting’s bridge exemplifies this,

I’ve become undone, only if you knew

I’ll find someone to replace you

Only if you knew what I would do

To get over you…

While Method Acting ends on a low note of apathy and the consequences of excessive drug use, ¡La Cocaína! is the opposite; ¡La Cocaína! glorifies his downward spiral. Featuring a kickass guitar solo and catchy hook, ¡La Cocaína! is [REDACTED]’s energetic release that closes out Lab Tapes.  “It’s literally just a coke song, it’s not that deep Lewis.” – [REDACTED].
